Christmas Party and Holiday break up

                                                                                    2009

Wednesday evening, the 9th of December, the ASC members organized their annual Christmas Party. This evening is a special evening for members, family and friends who have a special enthusiasm for dog sport, dogs and being around with likeminded people in a social Club atmosphere.

On this evening we have a mix of training dogs, eating food, having laughs, talking about dog training and for some of us, meeting up with new faces.

This Christmas party was all ready the second Christmas Party and Holiday break-up in the history of the ASC. It was a great evening in all different areas. Besides having training, eating, drinking and meeting new people, we also had our Trial Certificate Presentation.

Alex, Josie and Ryan, the President, the vice-President and the Treasurer/ Trial-secretary where standing in the Home of the Wolves Club house in front of all of our party visitors.

At first Alex thanked the members who organized this fantastic evening, Kieren and Kurt, who took care of the delicious meat on the Aussie bbq, all the ladies who took care of the delicious starters, salads and cakes, Adrian who organised the tea, coffee and other drinks and everybody else who gave each other a hand to make it a fantastic evening.

Alex continued with a few words about what the ASC achieved in the last year and what we would like to achieve in the new coming 2010 dog sport season.

As the President of the ASC, he was really proud of what the members did and still do for the ASC. Also the special thanks went out for the Trial Committee, who made our inaugural October Trial and seminar weekend with judge/seminar leader Luc` Cendak a success. With 7 competitors on the field and all of them passing their BH test, we were able to talk about a very successful Trial. The seminar and workshop with Luc` Cendak was an integral part of the trial weekend for all the members to learn more about dogs, training and techniques.

Looking at next year, the President is convinced that the Trial Committee can do another good job in organizing a full-blown open Trial for all titles in IPO/Schutzhund. Hopefully some ASC members will have their dogs ready to go for one of the next titles, but also our inter-state dog sport

Enthusiasts are welcome to put some new titles on their dogs in one of the Trial weekends in South Australia.

With setting goals for the ASC, we are also looking forward to one day hosting the Australian National Championships in South Australia at our sporting venues. The ASC is young, fresh and keens to grow as a Sportdog Club and will work hard with the members to achieve our personal, as well the Club goals.

This evening, one by one the inaugural ASC trial competitors got their BH Certificate presented and were congratulated by the President and the Trial-secretary. Only our interstate participants Elke Effler from Melbourne and Dirk Littooy from Sydney were not able to get a handshake from Alex and Ryan at this special evening. So we’ve sent their well-earned Certificates by mail and will do the hand shaking and good luck kisses the next time when we see each other!

Cathy Gray, Debbie Mayne, Michael Kamphuis and Alex Withers himself where the ones who got their well earned BH Certificate and a nice picture taken this evening for the history books.

Josie, our vice-President also had a few kind words to say about the past year and the successful Trial. Not only did Josie mention, but also thanked a few people who did a very good job in helping the ASC into what the ASC has become and what kind of dog sport and social club platform it wants to be in the coming future. Josie did not forget anyone and that’s why we are so glad that we have such an experienced, always organized, well thinking and a social club person in the position as our vice-President.

That’s also probably why Father Christmas gave Josie the honours to pass on some presents for the younger visitors and as a special thanks to a couple of the members! So now even Father Christmas knows what’s going on at the ASC!

Thanks went also out to Adrian, who is taken the responsibility for our raffle organization. With selling cups of tea, coffee, soft drinks and raffle tickets, Adrian makes sure that we as the ASC get some extra financial support. As we all know this is a necessity, allowing us to finance the equipment, the training venue, but also is important for the future to emabling us to invite national or international top trainers / judge’s and seminar leaders over to Adelaide to invest in our dog training knowledge.

Also for this Christmas occasion Adrian had organized 3 wonderful prices for the Raffle, the winners going home with awesome prizes such as a slab of beer, a hand made leather dog collar and a big Christmas hamper. Adrian received a big applause from the Club members and we are all looking forward to the next raffle and are all ready curious what the prices will be then! So supporters of the ASC make sure you going to buy the right raffle numbers next time, because you can take the price home too! Thanks heaps to Adrian and keep on doing the good job mate.

After Josie was finished with her honours, the President asked the Trainer director if he would have some words for the Club members.

Most of the words were all ready said by Alex, Josie, Ryan and Adrian. So the Trainer director could keep his story a bit shorter and agreed on what was said by his helpful colleagues at the ASC.

First of all, this year was a successful year for the dog handler teams that set a BH-title as a goal. That means personal success for the handlers, but also a big success as a Club with its Club members. This success would not be possible without the help from all the members in the Club and organizing all sorts of things to get not only the Club running, but also a Trial running. With the help of the non-competing members, the competing members could focus on their own training and preparation before and at the Trial. Big thanks from my side to the help of the members who made the preparation for the competing members as less stressful as possible.

And I know that the competing members agree with me in thanking our fellow Club members. Next time others will need their support and then we will be there for them.

The Club is a Club for and formed from great members, the members are always number one, and the dogs will be number two. If the Club as a club is successful, then the success with the dogs will follow.

This year was not only successful in getting our first goals achieved, but also in how much our Club has grown in the number of members and in the numbers of new dogs at the Club grounds. It is a pleasure to work with these new people and their interesting dogs. We will keep on training together and set ourselves some new goals. Our training will be kept interesting and unpredictable with the addition of so many new puppies to our Club grounds!

All I can say for now is that we are doing well for the moment. We are a young Club and we have to work hard to achieve more personal and Club goals. We are still in the beginning of training and there is so much more to train before we will achieve an IPO/Schutzhund 3 title.

I am looking forward to the new Dog Sport season 2010 and I hope that we will have the same fun (and even more fun!) at training next year. We will work hard with every dog handler team to get their personal goals achieved and promote this wonderful sport to others. Thanks to everyone who I helped out for this year and I will see you back in the new year at the first ASC training evening on the 27th of January. My big thanks also goes out to the guys that help me out once in a while in assisting me in the training sessions, Thanks Ryan and Alex for your help and I also want to thank the Decoys in training, Matt, Kieren, Ryan and Alex for the effort that they put in to train the dogs for the Club members. We will continue in 2010!

Alex then thanked the Training director for the kind words and for all the effort and help that the he had put into the members and the ASC. With all the formalities over we could return to talking, eating and celebrating.

The evening continued with some more dog stories and a lot of members are so motivated that they said they don’t need a Holiday break. But it’s best we’ll have a break, to recharge our batteries and to spend some time with family, kids and friends.

And so ends the report on the ASC second Christmas Party and Holiday break up. There is only one more thing for every one...

The Adelaide Sportdog Club wishes every one,

     A merry Christmas

and a very good 2010!
