Jens trialed his first SchH dog nearly 58 years ago. His early interest in dogs and their training had been reinforced while serving in the Armed Forces. His first dogs were German Shepherds, later to be replaced by Dobermans, and since 2004, he has been breeding, training and competing with his Malinois.
His personal commitment to the breeding and training of high caliber animals is underlined by more than 50 self-bred, self handled Champions. Most include, amongst their wins, a number of National and International Championship titles world-wide. In the wider European arena alone, his dogs have won all the major Sieger titles many times over, with the majority mostly self-trained to their SchH3 and FH.
Jens has served as a FCI Specialist judge of the Norwegian Kennel Club and as President and Chief
Training Officer of the Norwegian Doberman Club. In Germany he held office as Chairman,
Breed Warden, and Training Officer of the German DV Chapter Club of Kiel, as well as Chairman and Training Officer of the German SV Chapter Club of Steinburg. While in Germany, he was one of 10 elite DV specialty judges licensed to judge the ZTP, as well as one of only two DV specialist judges triple-licensed as a Schutzhund trial Judge, a conformation Judge, and a Breed Surveyor. Jens' many international appointments have repeatedly taken him to more than 20 countries around the world - as a working dog judge, a conformation judge, a specialist breed surveyor and seminar holder. He has judged working trials for different breed clubs internationally, including qualification trials for German National Working Championships. As a "hands-on" breeder/trainer/judge, his wide experience in these fields has also seen him in demand as a lecturer.
Two of his fondest memories was winning the Stadtmeisterschaft in Lüneburg with Guys Hilo vom Norden Stamm with 290 points (SchH3) in competition with the area's best German Shepherd Dogs and Rottweilers and 33 years later by winning the Westfalen DVG State Championship with Nordenstamm Hassan with 288 points. Hassan was also the 2008 and 2011 Australian Grand National Champion.
